Quality A. S. A. Sailing Instruction
is what you can expect from MSC. We offer instruction for all levels
of sailing, starting with basic sailing (your first time on a boat),
up to offshore passages on large yachts. We teach on the type of boats
you will most likely be sailing on after your course is completed. MSC
can organize a program fully suited to your needs. We are a fully certified
A.S.A. training and testing facility with a classroom overlooking the harbor.

Basic Keelboat: 30 Hours
Come discover the joy of sailing.
Makes a great mid-week vacation package! We guarantee you’ll learn
to sail in this course. Ample time is provided to practice your newly found
skills while sailing in picturesque Marblehead and to nearby islands.
We limit our Learn to Sail classes to a maximum of four students per instructor
midweek and five students on the weekends. We feel our learn to sail
course is one of the very best available anywhere in the world
today, suitable for most people interested in learning to sail, day sailing
our boats, wanting to be considered competent crew on friends boats or
someday purchasing a boat of their own. This course may
qualify you for a basic sailing club membership (with your instructors
endorsement). Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. We reserve Fridays
for students who may require additional instruction time on the water or
a storm day. (Weekend class availability is very limited.)

may also test for both A.S.A. Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising
certifications (optional).

Bareboat Chartering
The next level in your sailing progression. We offer intermediate
coastal cruising to those that have attained proven basic sailing
skills. Instruction includes: Review of All Skills, Basic Tuning,
Tidal Flow, Sail Controls, Sail Shape, Reefing, Traveller, Heaving to,
De-powering a sail, Reducing heel, Chart Reading, Navigation Rules, Close
quarters maneuvering, sailing a
compass course, acting as skipper in charge of a boat, Anchoring,
Safety at sea, Coastal Cruising planing, Boat Handling Under Power, Docking,
Boat Maintance. interpret weather forecasts, plot a course on a chart and
sail to that destination, introduction to G.P.S., refueling precautions,
operating procedures of equipment, set an anchor. Offered Monday
- Thursday
or over three days as a live-aboard cruise with one night sail.
* Required for all sailing club membership.

Marblehead Adult Sailing
The Marblehead Adult Sailing Program is an excellent opportunity for
adult residents of Marblehead to obtain quality sailing instruction.
We hold introduction to sailing classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
on the water at the Gerry Playground (off Stramski Way) – it’s a great
location with scenery that offers a calming and refreshing end to a stress-filled
day – and you’ll learn how to sail!
The Marblehead Adult Sailing Program is run in collaboration with the
Marblehead Recreation and Parks Commission. When you graduate from our
program you’ll be able to continue your sailing experience on days
that we set aside for students to polish their new skills while enjoying
a sail in the waters off Marblehead. Chick

Kids Sailing Programs
Sail Marblehead offers a variety of youth programs during the summer
months. These programs are run at no cost to the participants and
include sailing activities for inner city kids, kids with cancer and other

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION: $75 Per Hour
Private instruction is also available on your own yacht or ours.
The most personalized instruction available. Instruction is available
for 1/2 day, a full day, or up to a 5 day trip. Learn to sail, prepare
to cruise, learn Gulf Stream strategies, Intercoastal Waterway preparation
(snow birds planning to head south for the winter) and more. Please inquire
as to rates and availability.

SPINNAKER/RACING COURSE:
Marblehead Sailing School offers to the sailor that has successfully
attained both basic and intermediate skills the opportunity to expand his
sailing skills and knowledge .Course includes: Advanced tuning, racing
tactics, starts, windshifts, latest "go-fast" techniques, sail designs,
spinnaker sets, spinnaker trim. Many of our racing instructors are ranked
nationally. Jim Ouellette is a U.S. Sailing certified race committee
officer. You will actually race in a fleet during this course. (Very limited

Frostbiting
in Marblehead
Team MSC won the last series in the Boston Yacht Club 2001 Sonar
winter racing program , held in March and April of 2001. After forty races,
first and second was separated by only 1/2 of one point. Come out
and join the fun! Sonar #512, was skippered by instructor Jim Ouellette.
